Vessel Scape

Vessel Scape, a subtle minimalist abstract artwork in mixed media, is my work entry for the 'Hidden Treasures', annual fundraiser Postcard Show, Cairns Regional Gallery, Dec.2nd - 11th. 2011.
Bids close 2.30pm for 3pm Auction Sunday 11th Dec.

Continuing on with my vessel theme for this annual event, this work investigates spatial and ethereal qualities, relationships between physical and non-physical realms, spaces between, states of stillness and an in-between knowing.

Vessel Scape - Diptych: 2 (8×6inches).
Medium: pastel, charcoal, gesso, ink
Support: Arches 300gsm rag paper, Mdf board backing.
Notions/thoughts -
Sometimes we linger
In that space between
Neither here nor there, nor anywhere really.
Sitting quietly, meditating
Not striving, just arriving
Being here and now
With presence
An awareness
Of a life-giving breath
Of spirit
Being
In a physical world.
There is a strong sense
Of the sublime
In the inner quiet, in the calmness;
Of the spatial and the ethereal
- qualities of floating, delicate, light, spaciousness.

Consciousness/light
Traces
Physical contour markings
Over implied grid coordinates
Passages, meeting points,
Connections, relationships
Inferred
In time/distance
Traveled
Touched.

Spaces between
Stillness,
Knowing-ness, presence

In spaces between.
