Biography:

Kerryn Madsen-Pietsch, born Ararat, grew up on country near Hall's Gap, in the heart of the Grampians of Western Victoria, Australia .

Between formal Art & Teacher Education qualifications Madsen-Pietsch worked & travelled interstate gaining life/work experiences and eventually settled in the isolated country region of Innisfail, Far North Queensland, teaching secondary level from 1985 onwards until 2003. Madsen-Pietsch has taught art at all levels ~ primary, secondary and tertiary ~ in education systems and also privately.

Parallel to a long art teaching career, raising a family & now self-employed at Artropica Innisfail Studio Gallery, a custom framing and art supplies retail small business, being sole operator/founder/co-owner, has been a continual commitment to developing her professional art practice. This is especially evidenced in her mastery of life (figure) drawing having regularly practised for thirty plus years since her first exposure to figure drawing classes back in 1974.

Other achievements behind her are: community participation in many local and regional curated group art exhibitions and in organizing many local community art workshops and exhibitions.

The most significant personal art achievements to date came after 2006 Tropical Cyclone Larry, a Cat.4/5, directly hit her home & Innisfail region in the Cassowary Coast, tropical Far North Queensland. As one of eight only (out of forty applicants) she was 'selected' to show/present her solo exhibition titled 'Elevating the Spirit', a body of mixed-media abstract works, at the Cairns Regional Gallery in mid 2007. Afterwards the solo exhibition was independently toured, showing at:
a) The Sugarama Gallery, Mourilyan (near Innisfail), then
b) The Main Space (again 'selected') at Umbrella Studio Contemporary Arts, Townsville, Queensland.

Numerous Art Awards have been gained in the areas of drawing, painting, printmaking, fibre and sculpture over the years.
