What:  Mixed media work: compressed charcoal, acrylic, paper collage on 200gsm cartridge paper.
The original work is on size paper 420 x 297 mm (A3).
Note ~ The space around the image here has been cropped down slightly for reproduction printing purposes.

Method: The compositional work employs a combination of gestural, contour drawing/painting techniques and has been worked directly from a life model.

About:  In the same life drawing session I completed several similar quick session life drawings that were all composed/grouped together on the one large sheet of cartridge paper. I later cut out and collaged what I thought the most successful images onto each their own larger A3 paper sheet  The delicate compositional balance of spacing around each of these images requires it's own problem solving.

My subject approach focuses on depicting dynamic energies through application of quick gestural, contour mark making and accentuation on spatial relationships ie. between figure-ground, negative-positive, ambiguity, unification, spaces between.

Other Artistic Points
The principle of figure/ground is one of the most basic laws of perception.
'Gestalt' is a psychology term which means "unified whole".
